Johnson Electric vs. Generic Motion Control: Servo Linear Actuator, Micro Linear Actuator 12v, and VFD Sizing for a 5hp Motor

I'm typing this between rush orders, so let me start with the practical part: the choice between Johnson Electric and a cheaper alternative is not always what it looks like on paper.

A micro linear actuator 12v is a simpler, compact unit. It pushes or pulls a load in a straight line, usually at a slower speed and with a duty cycle that is far lower than a servo actuator. I've used them for vent flaps, locking mechanisms, and small adjustment systems. They are not a drop-in replacement for a servo linear actuator, even if the stroke length looks the same.

And then there is the Johnson Controls VA-4233-AGA-2 electric actuator. That part number comes from Johnson Controls, not Johnson Electric. It is typically used in HVAC damper or valve applications, and it responds to a control signal from a building automation system.
