Johnson Electric Motor Identification Is the Most Efficient Thing You're Not Doing

Six years ago—or rather, seven now—I would have accepted the lowest quote on a micro stepper motor and called it a win. That was before I understood that the name on the component, and the ability to identify it, is the actual product. Bottom line: if you're buying motion components by price and hoping the specs work out, you're not saving money. You're leasing a headache.

To be clear, I'm not an engineer. I'm the office administrator for a 45-person automation service company. I manage roughly $350,000 in component purchases annually across 15 vendors, and I report to both operations and finance. The efficient path is the documented path
